Engellenner and Jojola Cruise in Match Play at Sacramento City 4-Ball Championship

The 70th annual Sacramento City 4-Ball Championship was contested at the Bing Maloney Golf Course on April 5-6 and April 13-14, 2025.
The Tournament dates were pushed back two weeks to try and take advantage of better weather and did we ever get some great weather. Both weekends were clear, calm, cool, great golf weather. However, in doing so we ran into the Masters on the second weekend, but we still had a full field of enthusiastic competitors.
Play began on Saturday April 5 th with 38 teams competing in a qualifying round to determine the 32 spots and seeding for the match play. The majority of the field broke par with multiple teams in the low 60's. The golf was spirited and highly competitive. The teams of Marc Engellenner of Rocklin and Domingo Jojola of Carmichael, and Taylor Knoll of Rancho Cordova and Joel Slak of Folsom were medalists in the qualifying round, shooting 9 under 63. Engellenner and Jojola earned the number one seed for match play on a card off.
Match play began on Sunday morning April 6th followed by Round 2 on Saturday morning April 12th, quarterfinal matches on Saturday afternoon, semi-final matches on Sunday morning, April 13 th and the final match on Sunday afternoon.
The final match took place between the qualifying round medalists Engellenner and Jojola, neither no stranger to the winner's circle, and up and comers David Leuterio of Gold River and Matthew Montez of Sacramento. Back and forth the match went until the unrelenting length of Engellenner and the short game mastery of Jojola wore down the very game and talented Leuterio and Montez with a 4/3 finish.
Thanks to all the competitors. The Staff of Bing Maloney and their Tournament Director Mychal Weitzman were outstanding - many thanks. Last, but not least, all the volunteers of the Sacramento Golf Council - the time, commitment and love of the game were truly on display. Thank you one and all.
Tom O'Neil, Tournament Director
