2024 County Junior Championship

The Championship was held June 18 & 19, at our new venue, Mather Golf Course. It was lucky that the event was able to be held due to wildfires occurring around the course just days before the event. You could see where the fire in several areas came right up to the fencing surrounding the course. The weather was great, especially staying in the low 90’s. A special thank you to all the competitors, volunteers, and staff at Mather who helped to make this a successful competition. There were 98 competitors starting on Tuesday. A special thank you to my rules people: Pat Stewart, Bill Rider and Marcia Whiting. Their expertise was needed often on the course.

This was a very exciting competition. After the Boys 16-18 completed their final round, there were 4 boys tied at 3 under 141 for low gross over the field. They thought there would be a playoff. However, the Boys 14-15 still had to complete their final round. Of course, the low scorer from Tuesday was in the last group to come in, and the Low Gross Boys winner was 15 year old, Kees Hoogendyk, with a 5 under total of 139.

The excitement wasn’t over yet. Girls 14-15 had Serene Kim come in at 8 under par 136 after her final round and again the wait was on until the 16-18 Girls completed their final round. Hannah Stouder also shot 8 under par 136. A playoff ensued and Hannah Stouder prevailed on the first playoff hole to win the Low Gross title with a score of 136.

There was a brother and sister, Dylan Hidayat (14) and Danica Hidayat (age 12) who both placed in the championship.
