76th Annual Walter and Olga Strand Junior/Senior

76th Annual Walter and Olga Strand Junior/Senior

It was a crisp Fall Sunday morning when 28 teams convened to compete in the 76th Annual Walter and Olga Strand Junior Senior Championship. Fathers, sons, mothers, daughters and even grandparents were present competing or watching the event.

I had 30 teams signed up and paid, last minute two cancelled, no refunds were given.

As the golfers completed their round, we had some initial excitement when Anberly Wachtel Ginter came into the clubhouse dancing around, telling her story about how she aced the par three 17th. It was nice to see her excitement, pure joy 😊. As is customary I offered her a dozen golf balls of her choosing, she danced into the pro shop and grabbed a dozen Callaway Supersoft (I thought ProV1, for sure - I was wrong). It was a nice touch when our President Janice personally went over and congratulated her.

The Championship team this year was father and son, Peter and Ricky Soe, who shot a net 65.5! Second place went to two teams who tied with net 67’s.

These teams got to 67 in two very different ways, one team shot a gross 63 with a +4 handicap

The other team shot 77 with a 10 Handicap!

Tighe Hammam and Anthony Stouder shot the gross 63!

Kirsten Harris and Addison Jones shot 77 gross.

The tie breaker formula was applied and after ties through back 9, back 6, back 3, final hole, did not break the tie….I decided to award 2 second places.

In the Callaway flight first place was Shaun Abalateo and Gabrielle Borego shooting 66 gross for the day. Second place was our own Bob McConnell and Raiden Orille third place was father and daughter Brian Ginter and Anberly Ginter.

I want to thank David Godinho, Larry Glasmire, Janice Luis, and Sean Wong for their help before, during and after the tournament.

Next year I hope to expand the field. Great day, I have a couple of ideas I plan to implement next year.

All in all, a great day, great memories made.
