2023 County Senior & Super Senior

93 of the best Seniors, Super Seniors, and Legends players (75 years and older) in Northern California participated in the 50th Annual Sacramento County Senior & Super Senior Championship held at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course in Carmichael, CA on May 2-3. Tuesday’s chilly and windy conditions made a beautiful but difficult golf course that much tougher, particularly when a brief lightning strike within a couple of miles of the course brought some unwanted rain late in the round. Only one player was able to break par on the first day. Wednesday’s conditions were more favorable, but several tough pin placements made scoring difficult. Only one player broke par on the second day.
In the Senior division, Tony Padilla from Sacramento, the only player to break par in the first round, shot 71-79-150 to capture the title, having previously won in 2018. John Rotteveel from Dixon (78-73-151), Dean Prince from Rocklin (80-71-151) and Chris Bailey from El Dorado (75-76-151) tied for second.
In the Super Senior division, Casey Boyns from Monterey with scores of 74-69-143 to win by four shots. This was Casey’s first victory in the event, having captured virtually every amateur event in Northern CA in the past 20-30 years. Joey Ferrari from Stockton (72-74-146) finished second and third place went to Peter Canevari from Modesto (75-74-149).
In the Legends Flight (age 75 and above), Bobby Olds from Brentwood won with 79-77-156. Greg Saiki from Sanger was 2nd with 79-80-159.
Many thanks to Asa Jennings, Kathy Fitzhenry and the entire Ancil Hoffman staff for all their help. I would also like to thank Larry Glasmire, Dave Eisner, Linda Delong, Mike Fleming, Bob Adams, Steve Yates, Patty Mitchell and Janice Luis for all their help and support. The event would not have happened without all of them.
