2023 County Four-Ball

2023 County Four-Ball

The 21st Sacramento County 4-Ball Championship was contested at Mather Golf Course on October 21, 22, 28 and 29, 2023.

40 two-player teams competed in the 4-Ball qualifier on Saturday, October 21st, with 31 teams advancing to match play along with the defending champions to complete the 32-team field. The first round of match play began on Sunday, October 22nd. Conditions were less than ideal on Sunday with overcast skies, chilly temperatures and a late afternoon thunderstorm that halted play for about 30 minutes with two matches still on the course. After a brief respite from the rain, we were able to squeegee the greens, resume play and complete both matches.

Play continued the following Saturday, October 28th with both morning and afternoon matches. Conditions were good for the morning matches on Saturday, but the afternoon matches had to contend with blustery winds and chilly conditions. Four teams advanced to the Sunday, October 29th morning matches.

The teams of Marc Engellenner & Bobby Bucey (two-time defending champions) and Taylor Knoll and Joel Slak advanced to the final match in the afternoon with ideal playing conditions. Engellenner and Bucey won the first hole, but that was the only hole they won. Knoll and Slak squared the match with a birdie on the 5th hole and then recorded birdies on seven of the next eight holes to close out the match 5 & 4.
