2023 City Senior Four-Ball
The first annual Sacramento City 4-Ball Championship was contested at the Bing Maloney Golf Course on March 31 thru April 2, 2023. Play began on Friday, March 31st with a 16-team match play bracket. Followed by quarterfinal matches on Saturday morning, April 1st, semifinal matches on Saturday afternoon and the final match on Sunday morning, April 2nd.
Because of unusual amounts of rain the weeks prior to the tournament, “lift, clean and place” through the green was in play. The weather cooperated for the weekend with dry conditions, but cold and windy weather.
The final match took place between the team of brothers Jay Weiss (The Woodlands, TX) and Jeff Weiss (Roseville, CA) and the team of George Fahey (Orland, CA) and Robert Rounsaville (Orland, CA). Fahey/Rounsaville took an early lead 3 up after five with birdies on 1, 4 and 5. The Weiss brothers closed the gap and tied the match by the 11th hole with birdies on 7, 9 and 11. The match remained tied until 15 when the Weiss brothers went 1 up with a birdie. Fayhey/Rounsaville tied the match with a birdie on 17. The Weiss brothers made a birdie on the 18th hole to claim the title.
Many thanks go to the Sacramento Golf Council volunteers, Rudy Danzinger, Mike Fleming, Steve Yates, Mark Perry, Dave Eisner, Alan Luis, Janice Luis, Rhea Harris, Peggy Chan, Larry Glasmire, and Bing Maloney Tournament Director, Mychal Weitzman, and staff.
