2022 State Fair Junior

2022 State Fair Junior

The State Fair Junior Tournament at Mather Field GC was a big success. The 90-degree weather was perfect. The golf course played hard and fast, not one complaint about the condition of the course. We had 163 players, 33 in the 7-11 division, 130 in the 12-18 division. The overall girls champion was Amelia Garibaldi with a score of 66. The overall boys champion was Andre Zhang with a score of 68.

I want to thank Larry Glasmire for showing me, over the last two years, how to run a golf tournament. I really appreciate his support. Janice Luis was instrumental in showing me the ins and outs of Blue Golf – thank you so much. To all my co-directors Janice Luis, Peggy Chan, Charlie Cheung, Steve Yates, Rhea Harris, Mike Fleming and Tom O’Neil – thanks for all your help with the set-up and running of the tournament. I had three great volunteers – Rebecca Birch, Maynard Pace and Allen Luis – thanks for all your assistance. A special thanks to Greg Logoteta as Rules Official who was on the course all day. An additional special thanks to Nolan Yeager and Loelani Ned, two ROTC students from Cordova High School for their help on the 18th green. Finally, thanks to the Mather Field staff Phil and Lance for putting up with all my questions.

This was my first time being a Director of a golf tournament. I learned a lot and I am looking forward to next year.

Mark Perry, Tournament Director
