Elk Grove’s Zach Mate Claims Sac County Men’s Amateur Title with Final-Round 66

The 61th Sacramento County Men’s Amateur was played at Ancil Hoffman GC, Carmichael, CA on July 12-13, 2025. 108 players competed for $5000 in gift certificates and many trying to qualify for the California State Fair tournament. Most of the players were from the greater Sacramento area but a significant number of golfers were from the SF Bay area and Southern California too. This year we lowered the minimum index to play to 3 or less which created the most competitive field ever in this event. 88 of 108 golfers had an index of 0 or better!
The champion this year is Zach Mate (Elk Grove) with a total score of 137 … 7 under par. Zach shot 71 on Saturday and won the tournament with a 6 under par … 66 … on Sunday. Zach’s Sunday scorecard had 12 pars and 6 birdies … Very Impressive! Zach won a $800 gift certificate for 1st Place plus a Champions trophy and his name on the perpetual trophy. One shot behind in 2nd Place was Taylor Knoll (Rancho Cordova) with scores of 70-68=138.
The Sac County Men’s Amateur tournament could not have been conducted without volunteers from the Sacramento Golf Council. A “BIG” Thank You to Larry Glasmire, Maynard Pace, Mark Perry, Tom O’Neil, Bob O’Neil, Rhea Harris, Allen Luis, Jan Luis, Patty Mitchell, Vi McNally, Bob McConnell, Tom Bacon and Scott Bland.
