Chuck Honeycutt Bio

Chuck’s first round of golf was nine holes at Haggin Oaks in 1959, more than 60+ years ago. Baseball was his favorite sport in 1959 and golf a distance second. But in high school, golf was his favorite sport, and he played on the golf team. Chuck’s baseball skills transferred to golf, and he excelled in tournament play. Junior golf at Haggin Oaks in the early 1960’s was pure fun. Back then, golfers eighteen or younger had to take an etiquette course to qualify for junior golf rates. Junior golf rates were a bargain. A junior play card, Monday through Friday (No Holidays) was $.50 per month. The biggest challenge was finding a ride to the course and a ride home.

After high school, Chuck says he should have played golf in college, but other campus activities kept him busy. After college he continued to play whenever possible. Marriage, children, and his career always kept him busy but somehow, he found time to play. Once his children were in college, about 35 years ago, he moved back to Sacramento and significantly increased his golfing activity. He has been a member of the Ancil Hoffman golf club for 25 years and the Sacramento Golf Club for 10 years.

Chuck joined the Sacramento Golf Council (SGC)10 years ago to give back to a sport that has meant so much to him. He has very favorable memories of junior golf in the 60’s and wanted to help today’s young golfers love the game of golf. His first SGC assignment was the Sacramento County Junior Championship at Cherry Island GC for 3 years. Then he became the tournament director for the California State Fair Championship at Haggin Oaks for 5 years. Currently, for the last 2 years and again in 2025, he is the tournament director for Sacramento County Men’s Amateur at Ancil Hoffman.
