Council Bio – Bob O’Neil

Bob O'Neil Bio

Bob began playing golf in his early 20’s primarily at Land Park, Ancil Hoffman and Haggin Oaks. His lowest round of golf was recorded at Haggin Oaks (74) in 1985. Golf has been and will continue to be his primary hobby.

Bob grew up in Sacramento and attended Christian Brothers High School, graduating in 1973. His educational journey then took him to Saint Mary’s College where he graduated in 1977 with a BS in Business Administration. In 1975, he joined Bank of America where he held various operational and credit positions for over 10 years. Bob then moved over to smaller community banks where he really got to know the client base and was able to provide financial services to meet their needs. His positions were centered in credit throughout the remainder of his career. Bob retired from banking after 47 years of service.

In 2023, Mark Perry, a SGC Member, invited Bob to apply for a position with the Council. Since Bob was accepted into the Council, he has assisted with many of the tournaments. In addition, at the end of 2023, the Council asked Bob to become the Treasurer. Once a banker always a banker.

Bob says being a member of the Sacramento Golf Council has been a wonderful experience. It is fun watching the quality of the amateur players. The tournaments have a huge draw and it is a testament to how well the tournaments are run. The Golf Council members who are directors of these tournaments put their hearts and souls into making sure they are first class events.
