The Sacramento Golf Council concluded the sixth annual Sacramento Valley Women’s Amateur Golf Championship at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, crowning Sakura Watanabe as the Championship Flight winner and Xiaolong Zhong as the Senior Championship winner.

Sakura Watanabe Claims Sacramento Valley Women’s Amateur Championship
Sakura Watanabe of YOC TFTGS captured the 2026 Sacramento Valley Women’s Amateur Championship with a composed and determined performance over 36 holes, finishing at 3-under-par 141. After opening with a 1-over-par 73 on Saturday, Watanabe delivered one of the best rounds of the tournament on Sunday, carding a 4-under-par 68 to secure a two-stroke victory. Allie Nguyen of El Macero Golf Club also fired a final-round 68 to finish runner-up at 1-under-par 143, while Melia Gustavson, Brie Briggs, Bella Ransi, and Nicole Iniakov shared third place at even-par 144. Watanabe’s steady play under pressure and strong finish highlighted a championship that featured one of the deepest and most competitive fields in the tournament’s history.

Xiaolong Zhong Dominates Senior Championship
Xiaolong Zhong of Peninsula Golf & Country Club delivered a remarkable performance to win the Senior Championship in commanding fashion. Opening with a 4-under-par 68, Zhong improved even further during Sunday’s final round, posting a tournament-low 6-under-par 66 to finish at 10-under-par 134. Her exceptional ball striking, consistent putting, and calm demeanor produced a 12-stroke victory, one of the most dominant performances of the championship weekend. Lynne Cowan of Sierra View Country Club finished second at 2-over-par 146, while Tina Barker of Green Valley Country Club placed third at 4-over-par 148. Zhong’s impressive display showcased the high level of talent competing in the Senior Division and underscored the strength of women’s amateur golf throughout Northern California.

The Senior Net Championship recognized outstanding play through the handicap system, rewarding consistent performance and competitive spirit throughout the weekend. Vicki Philpott of LPGA Amateurs Sacramento earned Senior Net Champion honors with two steady rounds on the Alister MacKenzie Golf Course, demonstrating the value of precision, course management, and perseverance.
