Championship Flight Champion: Cru Sullivan
Sixteen-year-old Cru Sullivan of Ripon added his name to one of Sacramento golf's most
prestigious trophies, firing rounds of 69-68 to finish at 7-under-par 137 and claim the title of
2026 Sacramento City Men's Amateur Champion.
Sullivan entered the final nine holes with a narrow advantage but still had plenty of company. As
the championship moved toward its conclusion, four players found themselves tightly bunched
in a battle for second place while keeping pressure on the young leader.
Sullivan never flinched.
Displaying poise beyond his years, he closed with a final-round 68 and played the final hole
knowing several accomplished competitors were within striking distance. His steady play over
the closing stretch secured a one-shot victory and capped a championship performance
highlighted by consistent ball-striking and mature course management.
Four players shared runner-up honors at 6-under-par 138:
Vicente Rodriguez (El Dorado Hills)
Casey Kosney (Spartanburg)
Kavi Marez (Carmichael)
Collin Statler (Walnut Creek)
Just one shot further back was Sacramento's Matthew Miyamoto, who finished alone in sixth
place at 5-under-par 139.
Championship Highlights
The championship featured excellent scoring throughout the weekend, with twelve players
finishing under par and the leaderboard remaining unsettled until the final groups completed
play on Sunday afternoon.
One of the memorable moments of the tournament came during Saturday's opening round
when Johnny Thut recorded a hole-in-one, providing one of the weekend's most exciting
highlights.
Players praised the championship setup, outstanding course conditions, and efficient pace of
play throughout the event. The tournament was supported by a dedicated team of volunteers,
rules officials, scorers, starters, and Haggin Oaks staff who helped deliver a first-class
championship experience.
