Course Record set at 55th Sacramento County Women’s Championship

On July 26 and 27, 2025, the 55th Sacramento County Women’s and Handicap Championship were held at Mather GC, where 40 women competed. The ladies enjoyed the weather and played well. We started at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday and were able to complete all the awards by 2:00 p.m.

A special thank you to the team assisting me this year. Thanks to Linda Bigler who is in training as she is taking over the 2026 Tournament. Larry Glasmire, who assisted me with Golf Genius before and as needed throughout the tournament. Also supporting me were Pat Keys, rules official, Jan Luis, Allen Luis, and Charlie Cheung, Mark Perry, for roving, pace of play and everything else, and Peggy Chan and Sean Wong, helping with scoring and Golf Genius, Mike Fleming announced for us on the first tee with Mark Perry backing him up, and Linda and John Meeker for handing out water on Saturday. A special thank you to the Mather staff, Thomas Wary and the Mather team for their support on the course.

The 2025 Sacramento Women’s Championship was won by Taylor Baker from Sacramento with a score of 131 or 13 under. Taylor Baker set a course record with her round of 62 from the silver tees for both men and women at Mather. Added to her round of 3 under 69 on Saturday, she easily cruised to victory. The ladies in her four-some shared that it was fun to watch her playing such a stellar round. Darla Mae Dela Torre from Fairfield played well and shot 139 or 5 under for second place. We had three ladies shoot 140, or 3 under resulting in USGA tiebreakers for Ashley Freitas (San Jose), Mia McDowell (Alamo), and Erica Villegas (Suisun). All the ladies gave chase, but Taylor was on fire on Sunday.

The Handicap Division was won by Karen Biscaha (Fair Oaks, with a gross score of 184, resulting in a net score of 134 for 10 under. Esther Garcia (Fair Oaks) earned 2nd place with a net score of 148. Our 3rd place award went to Taren Peschke (Orangevale) with a net 150, which was broken with a tie to Vicki Philpott (Roseville). These ladies were also quite competitive.

I’m blessed to have a wonderful team who helped me make this tournament a success. The financial report will come soon.
