2023 State Fair Junior
The State Fair Junior Tournament was held at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on Saturday, August 26, 2023. This year’s event was a big success. The weather was good – 95 degrees and no wind. The players commented that the golf course was in great condition. We had 165 players: 30 in the 7-11 division, 135 in the 12-18 division. The overall girls’ champion was Chloe Ku with a score of 67. The overall boys champion was Michael Sorber with a score of 64. Fantastic scores from these two champions.
I want to extend a special thanks to Haggin Oaks head pro Mike Woods and tournament director Murray Salisbury. They provided outstanding advice and assistance leading up to this year’s tournament, And thanks again this year to Janice Luis for her invaluable help with Blue Golf.
The tournament would not have been a success without the help I had from my fourteen tireless volunteers on tournament day. From the Sacramento Golf Council, thank you to volunteers – Larry, Jan, Steve, Mike, Marc, Chuck, Rhea, Charlie, and Patty. Other volunteers, thank you to – Stuart, Bob, Tony, Pat, and Josh, from JGANC. Finally, thanks to Soleil from the Haggin Oaks staff who was so helpful with her assistance in setting up the tents at both first tees. The tournament ran smoothly thanks to the hard work of all my volunteers.
