2022 County Junior Championship

On June 21 & 22, 2022 the Sacramento County Junior Championship was conducted at Cherry Island GC. The weather did not cooperate this year both days it was over a hundred degrees, as start times were 9 am. A special thank you to all the competitors and volunteers, and especially to Cherry Island staff and volunteers who helped to make a successful Championship.

We 98 entries, using 8-minute interval tee times. A special thank you to my rules people, Marsha Whiting and Pat Keys, as always they did a wonderful job.

Now the results of the championship, low gross boys was 15 year old Jayden Lizama with a seven-under-par 137 with rounds of 67 and 70 and the girls’ winner, winner in 2021, was 14 year old, Sophia Lee with a 149, she played to steady rounds of 76 and 73, she also had her first hole-in-one on #4 using a 7-iron for 140 on Wednesday yards. The council provided her with a dozen balls of her choice.
